Source beach Pornic, FranceLocation: Pornic in Brittany, France
Size: very small – at high tide, at low tide 3 times the size (photo is at low tide)
Type of beach: sandy, a kind of brown coloured sand with shells in the sand. It is an ocean beach, but although the wave were a bit rough they didn’t get that big.
Shade: No natural shade on the beach
Water: chilly and not very clear in the ocean.  However at low tide the kind of ocean pool does get very warm because it is very shallow (knee depth)
Features: lots of rock pools an shells at low tide, a walled shallow swimming area for children, plus some ropes tied up that created a kind of net to play beach tennis over!
Lifeguards: No the beach isn’t patrolled
Suitable for: families with children, due to the size of the beach, the rock pools and that you can easily access it via a flat path
Facilities: toilets, outdoor shower, limited free parking, snack/ice-cream shop

I visited this beach in Pornic at both low and high tide, and each are very different…

Low Tide
Low tide was in the morning when I visited and was great for rock poolers with lots of crabs, fish and shells to be found, as well as seaweed.

The low tide showed a small ocean pool that was walled at the ocean side and as a result the water was VERY warm in it, perfect for children or just people who don’t like a cold ocean! However at it’s deepest it only comes up to thigh level. The ocean itself is cold, even in August when I visited, probably a max of 18 degrees…. brr

High tide at Source beach PornicHigh Tide
At high tide practically the whole beach disappeared, which meant that if you wanted to lie on the sand you were less than an arms length from the next person – not everyone’s cup of tea!

No rock pooling at high tide, just sand, not a lot of room to play games, easy to swim off the beach, although a little pebbly/shelly underfoot in places as you walked into the water.

Overall
Great beach for families due to the size and the low tide activities. If you like white sand and crystal clear waters this is not for you!
